It’s finally the last week of the off season, and today was a simple 3 x 10 minutes at zone 4-5. I made it through, but it didn’t feel too good. Ive been lacking sleep with all the sick kids in my house, and its starting to take its toll. Watts stayed stable throughout the intervals.
Later this week, I test again to see what my Functional Threshold Power is. Basically, I go as fast as I can for 20 minutes x 2. The watts I can reliably sustain during this time is my FTP. The FTP is similar to lactate threshold, the point at which my muscles begin to switch from aerobic to anaerobic metabolism. Or for simpler terms, when the burning in the legs start. The more fit I am, the more the FTP goes up. Currently, cycling is my weakest component, and my FTP is a tiny 168. I’m hoping to see some progress this week though, one watt at a time.
