Caution: Triathlete Slippery When Wet

If Seaworld Was In Montana.

Ah, there is nothing like the smell of a lap pool. I hopped back into the pool today for the start of official swim training. I had been swimming just to keep loose all winter, but things get serious from now. Even though I’m still pretty slow, I have made some good progress since I first started. I can probably put out a 1:15-1:20 Ironman swim. With that kind of time, I lie in the unique area of swimming where pretty much the only thing that is going to make me faster right now is technique. Now, I’m not going to be able to swim at the front just on technique, but that the most benefit for me is from adjusting my form and to get as slippery as possible. So, I’m going to focus mainly on form and drill work this year, and hopefully I can be ready for some Ironman swims around an hour next year.

On that note, I did some basic drills today. Its been a while since I drilled intently so I will have to do some reading when I get out of work. I’ll post my sets up later. Followed that up with swim golf; score was 73 average over 50 yards. Finally, got a baseline on a 300 yard swim: 4:47. Last year at this time, I swam a 5:45, so it appears I’m still moving in the right direction. All together, 2000 meters today.
