Put A Starbucks in Transition Zone?

Ah coffee. My lifeblood. If you’ve been reading my diet, you know I’m pretty heavy handed on the caffeine. 2 shots of espresso with a large coffee every morning. Addicted? Totally. A common question out there is if caffeine helps improve your work day, can it help you improve your race performance? Now, were talking regular doses of caffeine, not some under the counter stuff you might find at trucker rest areas.

You know whats coming next. Yep, found another article in the ever increasing repository of knowledge at the ACSM journal. According to 2009 research from Australia, performance between caffeinated and decaf athletes were pretty similar. Full article here.

So for now, use your cup of Joe to survive that early morning drive to the race site but don’t look for any aerobar mounted grande cups.
