This is surely going to be controversial. Remember, I’m just the messenger, and I enjoy my massages like anyone else.

Researchers from the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies in Canada ran a study on the effects of post exercise massage on blood lactic acid levels and blood flow. Their results, published in the latest volume of the Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, indicate that massage actually impedes lactic acid removal by altering normal blood flow.

Here is the full article. From a preliminary review, its difficult to judge how applicable this study is to the wide variety of massage methods out there. Much more research is going to be needed on this issue.
