Barefoot Running Lesson #2: The Treadmill Is One Painful Mother!
Okay, barefoot running is still fun. It still feels free. But you know what? Running barefoot on a treadmill feels fun, free, and like crap!
Tonight, I was planning on hitting the open road with the local cycling team. Thanks to mother nature though, a Costco size load of lightning, rain, and wind made it a better idea to stay on the trainer. Pounded out some 30/30’s X 4, rest easy spinning.
To top things off, I hopped onto the treadmill for a brick workout. As my shoes were in the car, I figured this was a good a time as any for more barefoot running. So, I put out an easy, slow, 10 minute mile.
That was about 2 hours ago, and its becoming quite clear that the “tread” on a treadmill is not the best surface to run barefoot on. While there are no superficial wounds, there is a large, deep, red, tender area forming on the ball of my left foot. I can hardly bear weight on it.
So, running outside on smooth surface…great. Running on rough surface thats moving for you…not so great.
Hopefully tomorrow, I wont be limping around. Luckily, I think its a swim day.
