I AM #1148: 11 DAYS
Another day down and another reminder this is really happening. Bib numbers are posted today and I am number 1148. Another forever special number. Maybe I can pull off 11:48?
Oddly enough, despite taking the last two days very easy, I was more sore today than a woodpecker at a steel factory. The only way I can explain this is that my body is used to always staying loose through training session after training session. Break that pattern up, and my muscles decide to clamp down. Of course, it didn’t help that I was basically stuck sitting at my desk doing paperwork for 8 hours.
After finally getting out of work, I donned my shoes and headed out into the 30mph wind. I didn’t care if it was cold. Didn’t care if it felt like I was running behind a 747 taking off. It just felt great to run. Did a couple of miles, one fast, and then I just took a nice warm down and enjoyed the open space. Total of six.
Dinner to follow was equally enjoyable. A grilled flatiron steak, rare, with some rice. Major YUM.
Another big event of the day was finally getting my long hair cut off. My faux hawk was getting ridiculous. The Forest Service actually called me to say my hair was becoming a fire hazard. Every time I do a long race, I cut my hair monk short. No, I have no scientific/performance reason. A thick black cap of hair just drives me crazy when running.
Now I just have to worry about the glare on my head blinding overhead aircraft…
